Entergy Louisiana’s Historic Solar Expansion Approval

“This approval underscores our commitment to meeting operational and sustainability needs, driving economic development and protecting the environment,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana.

The approval authorizes a streamlined procurement and approval process that will enable the construction of several solar modules in Louisiana, benefiting local communities through job creation and additional tax revenue. Importantly, adding clean energy allows the state to attract new industries and jobs that seek clean energy as part of their expansion plans.

This approval represents Entergy Louisiana’s continued efforts to modernize its power generation portfolio, providing cleaner, more efficient and diversified energy solutions to meet customer needs.

Today, nearly 25% of Entergy Louisiana’s generation portfolio comes from zero-emission resources, including nuclear and renewable technologies. Entergy Louisiana’s long-term vision includes continued investment in clean energy infrastructure, particularly utility-scale solar, as it becomes more economical.

Entergy Louisiana currently has approximately 230 MW of renewable resources, including a solar facility in the Capital Region that was the first utility-scale solar project approved by the Louisiana Public Utilities Commission and began delivering power to the grid in October 2020. In January of this year, the Commission The Louisiana Public Utilities Commission has approved a solar application for approximately 225 MW of renewable projects, increasing the operating company’s total solar portfolio to more than 3,800 MW in various stages of development and approval.

Additionally, the projects will improve the state’s energy infrastructure, providing reliable power to meet the growing needs of the industries and businesses that call or will call Louisiana home.
