Low cost cable management approved for 4.4MW Sungrow inverter

Participation

Affordable Wire Management (AWM) announced that the company has achieved a 630 A rating from the Renewable Energy Test Center (RETC), a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL). AWM’s CMS is the first in the industry to achieve this rating, qualifying its offering to support Sungrow’s recently launched 4.4 MW SG4400UD-MV modular inverter in North America.

“Sungrow’s 4.4 MW inverters are pushing new boundaries for more efficient and cost-effective utility-scale solar projects. By installing our inverters, developers can reduce their overall LCOE because fewer inverters are needed per megawatt. “With AWM innovations, increased demands can be safely met as their all-metal CMS are bonded and rated at up to 630 A. It is exciting to see that AWM is already producing products for the North American market that are ready to support Sungrow’s latest step in inverter technology,” he said Mikhail (Naveed) Hasan, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing, Sungrow.

AWM solutions meet IEEE and NEC requirements for bonding excess bare metal that may be energized. They are also compliant with UL2703, a standard for mounting systems, mounting devices, clamping/retention devices and grounding lugs for use with flat panel photovoltaic modules and panels.

Other alternatives, including polymetric (plastic) hangers, bypass this important standard because they lack a glued metal-to-metal connection.

The RETC rated AWM’s CMS, including hangers, beyond the UL2703 maximum current rating of 200 A to achieve a switching current of 630 A. This is equivalent to the overcurrent carrying capacity of Sungrow’s latest inverters for utility-scale photovoltaic projects, with an increased fuse capacity of 630 A.

“Utility-scale cable management can run and run dozens of electrical cables for up to 40 years, so selecting the right eBOS components is critical to the long-term reliability of the plant. O+M teams, owners and operators have learned first-hand that plastics degrade over the 40-plus year life of a project. Factory owners are inevitably forced to invest time and money in replacing them, which is an unfortunate, inefficient and costly result of using plastics,” said Scott Rand, co-founder and CEO of AWM. “By providing all-metal solutions, AWM’s offering supports cutting-edge technological developments and projects in the utility-scale photovoltaic industry. The developers, EPCs and EORs we work with, as well as owner/operators, are all experiencing the very real benefits of reduced construction costs, increased safety, consistent plant performance and increased service life.

Designed for utility-scale solar projects, the comprehensive CMS AWM includes the Arden Messenger Cable Hanger, the Bonsai Module Cable Hanger, and the Solar LOTO Locking Solution. The expanded AWM hardware offering, announced in early 2024, includes the HELIOS Beam Rod and PHOTON Toolkit.
