Senators are calling on the Department of Justice and the FTC to investigate Andretti-Cadillac’s exclusion from Formula One

A bipartisan group of senators has called on the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether Formula One’s rejection of the Andretti Formula Racing team violated federal antitrust law.

“We are concerned that Formula 1 is acting at the behest of its independent teams and other “key stakeholders,” including foreign automakers, to exclude the team created by Andretti Formula Racing, LLC from working with General Motors (the “Andretti-Cadillac Team”) from participation in the Formula 1 championship,” the senators wrote in a letter to federal agencies on Tuesday. “It is possible that such a refusal to deal – especially if orchestrated through a group boycott – could violate U.S. antitrust laws.”
