FCC will consider rules for AI-generated political ads on TV and radio, but may not apply to streaming | National

NEW YORK (AP) – The nation’s top telecommunications regulator is advancing a proposal that would require political advertisers to disclose when they use artificial intelligence-generated content in broadcast television and radio ads. The proposal announced Wednesday by Federal Communications Commission Chair Jessica Rosenworcel would add a layer of transparency that many lawmakers and artificial intelligence experts have asked for as rapidly developing artificial intelligence technology threatens to mislead voters. The commission hopes to have the rules in place before the November election. But the nation’s top telecommunications regulator would only have authority over television, radio and some cable providers. The new rules will not cover the huge increase in advertising on digital or streaming platforms.
