The recognition of Palestine as a state by Norway, Spain and Ireland has been met with gratitude by the people of the Gaza Strip, who are also calling for concrete steps towards a ceasefire.

The governments of three European countries announced on Wednesday their official recognition of Palestine as a state.

The move comes as the people of Gaza continue to endure the devastating effects of the ongoing conflict and demand an immediate ceasefire.

The people of Gaza welcomed the move and expressed gratitude for international support.

“We appreciate the recognition of the State of Palestine by European countries. We are grateful for this move. Living in the shadow of the Gaza war, we appeal to the major world powers to stand with us and end this war, ending the displacement of our people and stopping Israeli aggression,” said Yasser Taima, a resident of Gaza.

Alaa Abu Rajila, another Gazan resident, shares this opinion.

“We are grateful to European countries for recognizing the State of Palestine. We hope this goes beyond mere words, but recognition in action. We hope to stop the war and stop Israeli aggression against Gaza. We want peace, we don’t want war. We are tired of wandering from one place to another. It is difficult to get water and travel. Everything is very difficult,” Rajila said.

Iyad Qudayh, a resident of Gaza, expressed hope that the recognition would bring tangible changes.

“We hope that the recognition of Palestine as a state by European countries is genuine and not just verbal. We hope that aid can flow smoothly into the Gaza Strip so that we can get help in every way and be able to rebuild it and live in peace like people in other parts of the world,” Qudayh said.
