Kontron targets IoT edge devices with…

IoT and embedded computing specialist Kontron focused on advances in industrial automation and various smart sectors, unveiling 3.5-inch single-board computers that it says are paving the way for the development of compact edge devices.

Announced yesterday (May 22), Kontron’s ADN and AML motherboards feature Intel Atom x7000RE, Core i3 N and N-series processors and deliver nearly twice the graphics performance of previous-generation boards.

Kontron stated that SBC units are equipped with up to 32 GPU execution units; DDR5 memory; and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectors, one USB 2.0 interface and one USB 3.2 Type C interface. The boards also offer triple display capabilities and “multiple built-in controller features.”

Kontron stated that improved GPU performance means that “artificial intelligence and image processing tasks in particular can be accelerated.”

The company emphasized that its AML board “is designed for continuous operation” under “harsh operating conditions and high system loads.”

Kontron said the SBCs are “suitable for critical real-time computing in remote applications in industrial automation, smart cities, retail and healthcare.”

It plans to release samples in September and noted that the boards will remain compatible for up to ten years from the launch date “due to built-in key components” and international certifications.
