Some gas stations across Nigeria have started selling Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), which is seen as a viable alternative to Premium Motor Spirit, also known as gasoline.

CNG is a pressurized fuel gas that remains transparent, odorless and non-corrosive.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) recently ordered all petrol stations across the country to start selling CNG.

The introduction of CNG at gas stations is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources and reduce citizens’ dependence on gasoline.

Nigerians buy CNG at gas stations

NIPCO is at the forefront of CNG adoption in Nigeria, with its gas stations spread across the country.

Legit.ng reported that a driver who converted his car to run on CNG shared his experience in a video at a NIPCO gas station where CNG was sold at N150 per cubic meter.

The driver also revealed that refueling his car with CNG fuel cost him no more than N2,000.

In a recent statement, Nagendra Verma, Managing Director of NIPCO Gas, disclosed that Autogas for passenger cars, taxis and three-wheelers is sold at about N200 per standard cubic foot while for heavy commercial vehicles, CNG is sold at N260 per standard cubic foot. meter (SCM).

The lady buys fuel at N800 per liter

Meanwhile, a lady bought fuel and shared her frustration over the price at a time of shortage in Nigeria.

Mrs Chidimma said she bought the fuel at N800 and wished she could buy it again at N150 per litre.

In April, there were media reports that fuel was being sold at N2,000 per liter in some states in northern Nigeria.
