More and more people in Germany are thinking about Chinese car brands as possible options for purchasing their next vehicle.

An increasing number of people in Germany are considering upcoming takeovers of cars made in China.

Nowadays, it seems that more people in Germany than before are thinking about purchasing a future vehicle from China. Stuttgart-based management consulting agency Horvath revealed this on Thursday, claiming that 37% of respondents are considering this option. This trend extends beyond Germany, with Europe as a whole showing higher rates.

In a survey conducted in November 2023, 27% of Germans said they would consider cars from China. This number increased from 35% in the spring. This trend is part of the growing acceptance of electric vehicles, the consultancy explained, with the willingness to purchase them increasing from 13% to 30% year-on-year. China is the main competitor in this market.

For potential buyers of Chinese cars, the most important thing is an attractive price and an impressive price-performance ratio. “Consumers are wary of issues such as data quality, image and privacy,” Horvath explained. The survey shows that Europe as a whole is even more willing to consider Chinese models – as much as 48%.

A significant increase in brand recognition of Chinese car manufacturers also occurred in Germany. 85% of respondents, compared to 70% a year earlier, declared that they could name at least one Chinese car brand. The most famous car manufacturer in Germany is BYD, whose recognition rate is 54%.

To gather information on car purchasing preferences and mobility trends, Horvath conducted a survey asking 3,000 car owners from twelve European markets, the United States and China.
