Maryland Joins Antitrust Lawsuit Against Live Nation

The federal lawsuit alleges that the company that owns Ticketmaster has an illegal monopoly on the live entertainment industry.

WASHINGTON — Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown has joined a federal lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, Inc., alleging that the company that owns Ticketmaster has an illegal monopoly on the live entertainment industry, according to a press release Thursday.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and a group of attorneys general, including those in D.C. and Virginia, who supported the lawsuit’s claim that Live Nation illegally dominated ticket sales, venues, promotion and artist management.

According to the OAG, the lawsuit also seeks redress for Marylanders who suffered losses as a result of the company’s anti-competitive scheme.

Many arenas in the area are exclusive Live Nation partners, including the Fillmore in Silver Spring, The Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. and Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia.
