The NCC admitted the statement was incorrectly issued in a brief message sent to media on Tuesday. He also asked editors and journalists to retract any articles related to the statement, according to a Punch report.

“Please note that this press release on Starlink was issued in error. It is hereby withdrawn. If it is already published, please remove it,” said the message, signed by NCC media relations officer Kunle Azeez.

The commission’s director of public affairs, Reuben Muoka, had earlier indicated his intention to initiate enforcement action against Starlink for increasing its subscription costs in Nigeria without the regulator’s approval.

Starlink informed current and potential customers that the price increase would affect them in a statement delivered to them last week.

The monthly subscription rate increased from N38,000 to N75,000, an increase of 97%.

New customers will also have to pay more for the Starlink kit, which now costs N590,000 (up 34% from N440,000), which is the hardware required for installation.

The NCC, however, maintained that it had not authorized the price increase.

“Starlink’s decision to unilaterally revise its subscription plans upwards has not received the approval of the Nigerian Communications Commission,” Muoka said.

He said the commission was surprised when the company announced price increases even though it had filed a price adjustment request with the NCC, which the regulator had not yet accepted.

Elon Musk Introduces Low-Cost Starlink Mini Dish

Legitime.ng reported that SpaceX is preparing to launch the highly anticipated Starlink mini-antenna, an innovative gadget that promises to revolutionize Internet accessibility, especially in disadvantaged areas.

The new product aimed to give people in remote areas – where physical connections are impossible and mobile connections offer only limited bandwidth – access to satellite internet service.

The Starlink mini was considered a game changer, significantly smaller and more portable than the existing 23.4-inch by 15.07-inch Starlink satellite dish, which measures just 11.4 inches by 9.8 inches.
