Refrigerants – rules and regulations

ITALY: Carel has published a white paper explaining the new refrigerant regulations introduced in various countries, with a particular focus on the EU and the USA.

The 36-page document provides an in-depth analysis of the new regulations, providing an overview of the main changes introduced and their implications for the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sectors.

The revision of the European regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases, which entered into force on March 11, imposes an obligation to gradually reduce HFC refrigerants until their complete elimination by 2050, including requirements for HFOs. In the US, the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act (AIM Act) gives the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to regulate HFCs by gradually reducing production and consumption and moving to next-generation technologies.

This Carel white paper aims to provide the information necessary to understand and adapt to new regulations, helping industry players navigate the ever-changing regulatory landscape.
