On May 22, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems celebrated the grand opening of its new manufacturing facility in Acuña, Mexico.

The 185,000-square-foot factory will use highly automated manufacturing processes to produce two new, next-generation technologies: Global Scalable Brake Control (GSBC) and Global Scalable Air Treatment (GSAT). Production on new lines has started and will expand according to a staggered, multi-year schedule.

The facility is the latest step in the ongoing development of Acuña’s multi-site facility. Opened in 1988, the campus is engaged in the production, regeneration and assembly of a wide range of products – anti-lock braking systems (ABS), air dryers, compressors, valves, actuators and integrated vehicle modules.

“We are proud to unveil this new factory, which is a physical manifestation of the transition towards greater automation and technologically advanced assembly at our Acuña plant,” said Piotr Sroka, Bendix president, CEO and COO. “Achieving this milestone is the result of continuous, concerted efforts over the last eight years to increase the operational sophistication of the entire product range – driven by the hallmark performance, quality and reliability of Bendix products.”

Sroka added that the increased manufacturing capabilities “improve our productivity and give us additional flexibility to respond to the growing demands of our OEM and fleet customers – including meeting and exceeding their delivery expectations.”

GSBC and GSAT are global modular brake control and air treatment systems designed to be adaptable to the needs of customers in a variety of markets, Bendix said. High integration of core and advanced technologies enables more flexible installation options, making it easier to adapt to different vehicle platform requirements and needs. Additionally, the advanced capabilities and diagnostics of GSBC and GSAT enable the foundation for automated driving.
