Canon and WISCAR empower women in the printing and imaging industry

Canon Central and North Africa has launched Women Who Empower 2024 in Nigeria in partnership with Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) to empower women in the printing and imaging sectors.

The initiative aims to uplift and support women in the imaging and printing industry through workshops, mentoring opportunities and networking events tailored to promote the development and advancement of women in these fields.

The initiative, which follows this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Inspire Inclusion,” aims to empower women by providing a platform to showcase their work, providing access to essential tools and helping them achieve excellence through investment and training programs.

Canon Central and North Africa Managing Director Somesh Adukia said: “We are excited to partner with WISCAR in Nigeria to unlock the potential of women in the imaging and printing industry in Africa.

“This collaboration exemplifies Canon’s unwavering commitment to using our resources for the greater good. “Developing skills and empowering women is not only beneficial, but crucial to the development of our society and economy.”

Adukia noted that “by joining forces, we can create meaningful career opportunities for women, contribute to gender equality and drive economic growth. Together, we stand ready to make a significant impact on the advancement of women in our communities and beyond.”

WISCAR Founder and President, Ms. Amina Oyagbola, noted that “WISCAR is excited to partner with Canon to empower women in the imaging and printing industry. This partnership underscores our commitment to providing women with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in their professional endeavors. Together we will pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable society in Nigeria.”

The program will start on May 23, 2024, with a series of workshops covering three modules: printing, photography and content creation.

Taught by renowned Nigerian cinematographer, director and Canon ambassador Daniel Ehimen, the content creation course will provide participants with basic videography skills. The course will cover videography principles, camera mastery, storytelling and practical application with feedback.

Canon will provide all resources, including imaging and printing equipment. After completing the workshops, participants will receive certificates and valuable feedback from trainers.

The company looks forward to working with WISCAR and other organizations to support the advancement of women in the photography industry. This initiative is in line with Canon’s philosophy and commitment to promoting gender equality in the workplace.
