EDF Renewables launches a crowdfunding campaign for a solar power plant in Ottmarsheim

On May 17, 2024, EDF Renewables announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign via the Lendoscfera platform to finance the Ottmarsheim photovoltaic power plant, located in the Haut-Rhin region of France. This €200,000 project is reserved exclusively for residents of the departments of Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, Vosges and Territoire de Belfort. The goal is to enable local residents to directly participate in the energy transformation of their region by investing in renewable energy sources.

Photovoltaic project in Ottmarsheim

The solar power plant in Ottmarsheim, scheduled to open in July 2023, is located on reclaimed post-industrial land. It has an installed capacity of 15.5 MWp and consists of 28,000 photovoltaic panels and produces electricity equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 7,500 inhabitants, which is 2.2 times the population of the municipalities of Ottmarsheim and Hombourg.

Local contribution and sustainable development

This participatory financing initiative enables local residents to decarbonize their savings while participating in a local environmental project. Investment conditions, including profitability and duration, are described in detail on the Lendosfera website. EDF Renewables, in cooperation with Lendosphere, offers citizens the opportunity to invest at least EUR 100 to support this energy transformation project.

Ethical investment opportunity

Since 2015, EDF Renewables has engaged 5,000 private investors in the construction of renewable facilities in France, raising EUR 10 million in 60 fundraising events. Mainly open to local residents, these campaigns meet the growing demand for investment in the local energy transition, while offering direct economic benefits to participants. Gaëtan Lesne, Regional Development Director Grand-Est at EDF Renewables, is pleased that individuals are contributing to the participatory financing of the solar power plant in Ottmarsheim. It emphasizes that this project is the result of close cooperation with the region’s stakeholders, transforming a former industrial area into an asset for the region’s energy transformation. EDF Renewables’ crowdfunding for a solar power plant in Ottmarsheim is an exemplary local energy transition initiative. This campaign offers a unique opportunity to play an active role in the energy transition, while benefiting from an ethical and ecological return on investment.
