Oil Theft: Increasing Efficiency by Capturing Platforms – Navy

Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, declared the Service’s readiness to stop oil theft and other acts of economic sabotage in the general South-South area, including through the acquisition of platforms.

The Navy Chief made this declaration on Friday in his goodwill message at the special Jumat service held in Abuja to mark the 68th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy (NN).

Represented by the Chief of Communications and Information Technology (Naval Command), Rear Admiral Zakariya Mohammad, a three-star general, said: “The Nigerian Navy under my command will strive to improve the welfare of personnel and enhance our operational efficiency through platform acquisition and infrastructure development among others.

“This is intended to reposition the Service to realize its statutory roles. Some of the recent acquisitions, including a 35M hydrographic vessel, 2 32M fast patrol boats and 2 109 SP helicopters, as well as several other projects, will be commissioned during the anniversary celebrations.

“Following the approval of the Naval Board in Enugu, NNS MADUEKE was also established as a composite special operations base. Other bases will also be established to enhance our maritime security efforts and deter criminals from carrying out nefarious activities in our marine environment.

“These successes, acquisitions and infrastructure development were possible thanks to the support of the President.”

He concluded by saying: “As we celebrate, let us have goodwill towards each other and rededicate ourselves with renewed focus and enthusiasm to the pursuit of a prosperous future for the Nigerian Navy.”
