OSHKOSH – Changes are coming to the Oshkosh Public Library.

Starting Tuesday, OPL will introduce a more comprehensive policy on patron behavior, informed by community and staff feedback.

Approved last month by the Oshkosh Public Library Board of Trustees, the revised policy includes expectations for patrons to use library resources productively, clear consequences for those who engage in disruptive or threatening behavior, and a strong stance against any type of bullying or harassment.

In addition, these rules set guidelines for noise levels, the use of electronic devices, and eating and drinking in public places.

There are also new restrictions on the size of bags or items brought into the library.

“These policies are intended to ensure that every patron has a full and hassle-free experience of the library,” said new Public Library Director Darryl Eschete.

“We strive to maintain an atmosphere of respect and safety for everyone who visits us. These policies help employees maintain a positive environment and experience for all, and we appreciate Oshkosh’s help in keeping the library neat, clean and comfortable,” he added.

There will be a grace period for enforcement, coupled with support for staff.
