The IT sector is seeing job growth in tech hubs Bengaluru and Hyderabad despite a national slowdown

Over the last one year, the number of IT job vacancies has skyrocketed in Hyderabad and Bangalore. According to data from global job placement platform Indeed, there was a 41.5% increase in IT job vacancies in Hyderabad and a 24% increase in Bangalore from April 2023 to April 2024. This shows that these cities are becoming more and more important for IT professionals.

The interest of job seekers has also increased significantly. In Hyderabad, job clicks increased by 161 percent and in Bengaluru by 80 percent. This means that more people are looking for IT jobs in these cities.

However, nationwide, the number of job offers in the IT industry decreased by 3.6%. This suggests that tech companies are cautious about hiring due to the uncertainty of the global economy.

Sashi Kumar, Sales Director, Indeed India mentioned that software and IT related roles are in high demand not only among those already working in the field but also among those looking for new career opportunities. Despite recent layoffs, IT jobs remain attractive because they require specialized skills and training.

Kumar said: “Software and IT roles appear to be in high demand, not only by those currently working in the field, but also by those looking for new career opportunities. Despite the layoffs, the attractiveness of positions in the IT industry has increased. The high interest in IT positions may also be due to the extensive specialization of skills, training and experience that are typically necessary for these positions.

To stand out in a competitive job market, job seekers should focus on acquiring key skills. The most in-demand skills are analytics, agile methodologies, APIs, JavaScript and SQL.

This information is based on job offers and clicks on Indeed from April 2023 to April 2024.
