The approval authorizes a streamlined procurement and approval process that will enable the construction of several solar modules in Louisiana, benefiting local communities through job creation and additional tax revenue.

Adding clean energy allows the state to attract new industries and jobs seeking clean energy as part of its expansion plans, according to an Entergy press release. The initiative is consistent with Entergy Corporation’s plans to increase its renewable energy resources by 2031 and its commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This approval represents a significant milestone in Entergy Louisiana’s ongoing efforts to modernize its power generation portfolio, providing cleaner, more efficient and diversified energy solutions to meet customer needs.

Entergy has stated that there are both economic and environmental considerations for adopting renewable energy. For example, solar energy offers numerous benefits, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and creating jobs in the local community.

Currently, nearly 25 percent of Entergy Louisiana’s generation portfolio comes from zero-emission resources, including nuclear and renewable technologies.

Entergy Louisiana’s long-term vision includes continued investment in clean energy infrastructure, particularly utility-scale solar, as it becomes more economical.

The company’s vision also includes continued investment in energy efficiency programs and partnerships with local stakeholders to promote sustainability and resilience.

Entergy Louisiana currently has approximately 230 megawatts of renewable resources, including the Capital Region Solar facility, which was the first utility-scale solar project approved by the Louisiana Public Utilities Commission and began delivering power to the grid in October 2020.

In January of this year, the Louisiana Public Utilities Commission approved a solar application for approximately 225 MW of renewable projects, bringing the operating company’s total solar portfolio to more than 3,800 MW in various stages of development and approval.

Additionally, the projects will improve the state’s energy infrastructure, providing reliable power to meet the growing needs of the industries and businesses that call or will call Louisiana home.
