TRU Simulation + Training to provide Boeing 737NG flight simulation training devices to Copa Airlines

GOOSE CREEK, SC–(Marketwired – November 12, 2014) – TRU Simulation + Training (TRU), a Textron Inc. company. (TEXT) signed an agreement with Copa Airlines to supply a Boeing 737NG Full Flight Simulator (FFS) and two cockpit procedure trainers that will be used to meet pilot training requirements. TRU Simulation + Training will install training equipment at the Copa Training Center in Panama in the first half of 2015.

Boeing 737NG FFS features TRU Simulation + Training visual display system with Moog electric motion system®. This new simulator will showcase enhanced functionality such as iPad® capabilities within the instructor operating station. Two non-virtual cockpit procedures trainers will be delivered with the Boeing 737NG FFS to provide additional cost-effective flight training at a fixed base.

“After meeting Copa Airlines’ multiple pilot training needs with the 737NG Full Flight Simulators, the 737NG FFT X™-U, the Ascent XJ Trainer™ and two 737 flat panel trainers, the addition of our new Boeing 737NG FFS and two cockpit procedures trainers, will provide the airline with a comprehensive training package,” said George Karam, vice president and general manager, TRU Simulation + Training, Air Transport Simulation. “This is another example of TRU Simulation + Training’s innovative technology being used to deliver tailored training solutions to operators around the world.”

Once the complete TRU Simulation + Training training package is installed, the Copa Airlines training center will offer Boeing 737 pilots programs ranging from initial training to type ratings and recurrent training.

“Copa Airlines has been benefiting from the high-quality training products and support provided by TRU Simulation + Training team members for approximately eight years,” said Captain Pedro Herrera, Senior Training Manager. “This relationship has enabled our airline to provide cost-effective and robust pilot training programs that meet the needs of our operations team. The end result is well-prepared pilots who provide our customers with reliable flights at the highest level.”

TRU Simulation + Training was established in April from three existing companies – Mechtronix Inc. and OPINICUS Corporation, which were acquired by Textron late last year, and parts of the former AAI Logistics & Technical Services. In July, the company announced the acquisition of ProFlight, an FAA-approved Part 142 training center specializing in Cessna Citation CJ and Conquest Series training.
