Neon promotes Jeff Deutchman to president of acquisitions and manufacturing

Jeff Deutchman has been promoted to president of acquisitions and production at Neon, the Oscar-winning independent film company founded five years ago by Tom Quinn.

The news was announced during the Cannes Film Festival, where Neon will debut in both of David Cronenberg’s films Crimes of the futurewith Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen, and Brett Morgen’s genre-defying film with David Bowie, Moonage dream.

“Jeff has been here since the beginning and has played a big part in Neon’s success; his taste and instincts are simply impeccable,” said Tom Quinn, CEO and founder of Neon.

Under Deutchman’s leadership, the studio significantly expanded its production offer, which includes, among others: Cuckoo; Joshua Oppenheimer End, a golden age musical starring Tilda Swinton; Brandon Cronenberg Infinity pool starring Alexander Skarsgård; and Ben Wheatley’s horror film Earth.

On the acquisition front, Deutschman has negotiated deals for several 2022 Oscar-nominated films, including The worst person in the world AND Spencer. Other notable acquisitions listed on his CV include: winner of the Palme d’Or by Julia Ducournau, Titanium and the star of Nicolas Cage, Pig. In Neon he also helped win the Academy Award for Best Picture Parasite, Portrait of a woman on fire AND Three identical strangers.

Prior to joining Neon, Deutchman held senior positions at IFC Films and Paramount Pictures.

Neon collected a total of 18 Oscar nominations, including for Parasite, Escape, Spencer AND The worst person in the world.
