A European industry leader is calling on the United States to implement new technology regulations and promote a digital single market, ET Telecom reports

European Union industry chief Thierry Breton has called on the United States to adopt new technology rules to create a coherent digital market across the Atlantic. The EU is at the forefront of technology regulation, implementing laws such as the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act to control the practices of major tech companies such as Google and Meta.

While the EU has taken significant steps in regulating technology, the United States has largely relied on existing laws to regulate tech giants. However, recent actions taken by the U.S. Department of Justice, such as filing an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, show a shift toward tighter oversight of technology companies.

Breton stressed the importance of aligning digital rules between the EU and the US, stating that a global digital market would be fantastic. Amid growing concerns about the risks associated with advances in artificial intelligence, both regions share the same values and should work towards a unified approach.

Breton made the statements at the “Viva Technology” conference in Paris, where technology executives and political figures gathered to discuss the future of technology. The call for global cooperation on digital regulation comes at a time when the technology industry faces increasing scrutiny around the world.
