Beach Hazard Statement Issued for Monday for South Central Oregon Coast and Curry County Coast

At 8:47 a.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a beach hazard statement, effective for Monday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for the south-central Oregon coast and the Curry County coast.

“A moderate risk of sneaker waves is expected,” the weather service adds. “The risk of sneaker waves is higher on an incoming or incoming tide. The incoming tide will occur Monday morning.”

“Sneaker waves can rise much higher than normal on beaches, including rocks and piers. These waves can suddenly knock people off their feet and quickly sweep them into cold ocean waters, resulting in injury “Waves can also lift up driftwood logs, trapping anyone caught beneath them,” the weather service said. “Avoid climbing on rocks and jetties. Stay away from the ocean and stay out of the water to avoid dangerous conditions.”
