Laboratory scientists to FG: Establishment of regulatory agency boards to curb quackery

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria has urged the federal government to set up teaching hospital regulatory agency boards to curb the menace of quackery in the health sector.

The President of the Association, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, made the appeal over the weekend while briefing journalists on the results of the 208th National Executive Council Meeting/Public Lecture held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital. Casmir reiterated the association’s commitment to promoting peace and harmony in the health sector. “We call on President Tinubu to issue a proclamation establishing the boards of directors of the Nigeria Medical Laboratory Council.

“Mr. President should lead the creation of various regulatory agencies in the health sector and quickly return them to the budget line.” “Regulatory agencies are like the health police, the Medical Laboratory Technology Board has no governing board.”

“The government must reinstate boards to enable practitioners to be regulated. We are all hunting charlatans through flagship programs on radio and television.” “We are begging Mr. President to direct the management of clinical hospitals to end discrimination against medical laboratory workers. For the nation to achieve universal health standards, it must make investments in medical laboratory diagnostics,” Ifeanyi said.
