Mike Loomis from Nokia

Nokia has acquired Fenix Group, which specializes in tactical communications solutions for the defense community. The deal was first announced in December.

“The closing of the acquisition of Fenix Group represents a significant step forward in our strategy to grow our defense business, as well as our overall strategy in the U.S.,” said Mike Loomis, president of Nokia Federal Solutions.

“Fenix’s experience in broadband tactical communications perfectly complements our existing offerings, and together we will be even better positioned to deliver efficient, secure and reliable solutions to our defense customers, helping them achieve their mission-critical goals.”

The acquisition strengthens Nokia’s position in the defense sector by adding Fenix’s portfolio of broadband tactical communications products, including the industry-leading Banshee and Talon MANET radios, the company said. This will enable Nokia to offer a more comprehensive suite of 3GPP-based solutions to customers around the world.

“We are thrilled to officially join forces with Nokia,” said Dave Peterson, CEO of Fenix Group.

“By combining our innovative solutions with Nokia’s global reach and resources, we can create even greater value for our customers and make a significant impact on the future of secure military communications.”

The closing of the acquisition is a significant milestone in Nokia’s US strategy. With Fenix’s support for Department of Defense programs, Nokia can further expand its role as a technology provider for mission-critical needs.

Fenix Group was previously a portfolio company of Enlightenment Capital.
