El Salvador inaugurates the first hybrid power plants combining hydropower and photovoltaic energy

CECSA, a subsidiary of the National Electric Transmission Entity (ENTE), has inaugurated the first hybrid power plant in El Salvador combining hydropower and photovoltaic energy production. The power plants are located in San Matías, La Libertad and San Luis, Santa Ana, with a total capacity of 5.1 MW fed into the national grid.

The CECSA San Matías hybrid power plant has an installed capacity of 4.9 MW, including 4.1 MW from hydroelectric power plants and 785 kWp from photovoltaic sources. The CECSA San Luis power plant produces 700 kW from hydropower and 300 kW from photovoltaic energy. A total of 1,500 double-sided monocrystalline photovoltaic panels were installed in both locations.

With a $1.6 million investment, these projects are expected to provide electricity to more than 14,000 homes.
