Adani services will be available through the Adani One consumer app

What’s the story

Adani Group, one of India’s leading conglomerates, is reportedly planning to penetrate the e-commerce and digital payments sectors.

The company is allegedly in talks to acquire a license to operate on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), a public digital payments network widely used in India.

The Gautam Adani-led group is also in final stages of talks with banks for a co-branded Adani credit card.

Adani Group ready to compete with technology titans

Adani Group’s entry into the digital payments and e-commerce sectors will put it in direct competition with industry giants such as Google, Amazon, Walmart and Reliance Industries.

The company is also exploring online shopping options through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a public e-commerce network backed by the Government of India.

This digital public infrastructure attracts hundreds of millions of consumers every month, making it a lucrative platform for organizations launching consumer technology companies.

Adani services will be available on the consumer app

The proposed e-commerce and digital payment services will be available through Adani One, the company’s consumer app launched in late 2022.

Currently, the app provides travel-related services such as hotel and flight bookings.

The new services will initially target Adani’s existing customer base, which includes travelers using the company’s airports and gas and electricity customers.

Loyalty points and NDTV content to enhance Adani One

Adani customers could potentially earn loyalty points by paying bills or shopping at airports, which could be redeemed for online purchases.

This strategy is seen as giving Adani the ability to expand into larger areas.

Additionally, the company plans to incorporate NDTV news content into its app this year, thereby improving user experience and expanding its range of services.
