TotalEnergies Uganda has issued a call for expressions of interest from companies for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build a 15MW ground-mounted solar power plant near Lake Albert. This project aims to support oil production under the Tilenga project, which will develop six oil fields in the protected Lake Albert region in western Uganda.

The solar power plant will be a turnkey installation designed to improve the energy supply for oil operations. Interested contractors are requested to submit their pre-qualification questionnaire requests by email no later than June 7, 2024. To receive the questionnaires, candidates must meet a set of minimum requirements set out in the invitation to tender document.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), 95 MW of solar power will be installed in Uganda by the end of 2023. The project by TotalEnergys is part of a broader effort to integrate renewable energy into the country’s energy mix.

Earlier this year, Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment launched a tender for the Electricity Access Expansion Project, a five-year initiative to build 40 solar energy delivery systems across the country, further underscoring Uganda’s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure.
