FoldPlay lets you keep snacks and devices handy on your couch, bed or desk

When sitting on the sofa and watching a movie or TV, it’s nice to have snacks and drinks at hand thanks to the TV stand. While lying in bed, you can use the desk to prop up your laptop for work or entertainment. Sometimes at work you have to get up from your chair and work at your desk while standing. Typically, you will need three different products in each of these situations. However, the new FoldPlay entertainment station offers one solution for all these needs.

What is a FoldPlay entertainment station?

The FoldPlay entertainment station is the latest product from PortaEase. This portable tray table and laptop desk is designed to be used on a couch, bed, or even on a desk or table. The height is adjustable and the magnetic top prevents the available storage boxes and computer stand from sliding around. Everything can be folded for compact storage and travel. The FoldPlay entertainment station is now available for pre-order on Indiegogo. The FoldPlay costs $99 and comes with one storage box and a computer stand. Additional storage boxes and computer stands are available separately for $10 and $15, respectively. The FoldPlay entertainment station is expected to be delivered in August 2024.

How to use the FoldPlay entertainment station

The FoldPlay entertainment station is easy to use and store. It comes assembled. Two legs unfold from the center of the bottom, and two supports unfold from the edges and slide into one of two slots designed into the legs. This allows FoldPlay to be used on the couch with snacks, controllers and devices, or as a standing desktop on a desk or table. In the case of a handheld desk, the legs can be extended towards the edge, allowing the user to place the FoldPlay on their legs while sitting. FoldPlay has a metallic layer under the surface so that magnetic objects are attracted to it. Additionally, FoldPlay can be used as a large mouse pad on a desktop computer and has enough space for both a keyboard and a mouse.

The top of the FoldPlay is 600 mm (23.6 in) long and 300 mm (11.8 in) wide. When folded, it is only 15 mm (0.6 in) thick. The legs can be adjusted to make the FoldPlay 212 mm (8.3 inches), 215 mm (8.5 inches), 275 mm (10.8 inches) or 300 mm (11.8 inches) high. The storage box is 108 mm (4.2 in) wide, 130 mm (5.1 in) long and 50 mm (2 in) deep. The computer stand can be adjusted to three different angles and includes internal magnets to prevent the FoldPlay desktop from sliding around.

Why you should buy a FoldPlay entertainment station

The sectional sofa in our living room does not have cup holders, and instead of a coffee table, we have an ottoman in front of it. Therefore, when we watch something on TV, if you drink, you must hold it in your hand. FoldPlay fits perfectly on the couch and can be placed between two people, so both people have easy access to drinks and snacks. The two legs are solid panels that provide stable support on uneven surfaces, such as couch cushions. Adjust the legs to be further apart and FoldPlay easily becomes a desk that you can use while sitting on the couch or in bed. There is plenty of space for a laptop, mouse, phone and other necessary things. The first thing one of my daughters thought when I showed her FoldPlay was that she could now play Sims on your laptop in bed, without having to put it on your lap.

At work, our conference room is equipped with large wooden tables with a glossy finish on top. While they look great, they are terrible when using the mouse due to the glare. Since I prefer a mouse to a touchpad, I always have to use a folder or something that can be placed under the mouse. For my last boardroom meeting, I took the FoldPlay with me, laid it flat on the table, and used it as a large mouse pad. I also put my laptop and mouse on it and it worked great. The surface is good for writing because it is smooth and solid. Back in the classroom, I found it useful as a standing desk. Sometimes I want to stand up while working, and FoldPlay easily keeps my laptop and mouse at the perfect height. It was also great for presentations in class. I can place it on a student’s desk and it quickly becomes a lectern where I store my notes, laptop, and anything else I need. I no longer have to wander behind my desk or bend over while standing during lessons.

Finally, FoldPlay works equally well outdoors as it does indoors. Use it to store drinks and snacks while lounging in the yard. Because it folds up nice and compact, it makes a great table top for camping too. Use it as a small game table and the storage box can be used as a dice tray or to store game pieces while enjoying nature. It will also be a great place to place an electric lantern and other equipment inside the tent.

My family and I are impressed with the FoldPlay entertainment station. I actually found more uses for it than I originally planned. The top surface is slightly textured so it is not slippery or shiny and can be wiped clean with a damp towel. I like that it provides a solid surface and the legs are easily adjustable to different heights and uses. Finally, because the FoldPlay literally folds so it’s only just over half an inch thick, you can easily store it behind or under the couch, or take it with you to work or on vacation. It will fit in a standard suitcase, but is a bit too long for a carry-on suitcase. In addition to FoldPlay, I also found the computer stand useful because I like to type on the keyboard at an angle rather than flat. FoldPlay’s magnetic pull also prevents your computer’s base from sliding around. The storage box also works well for storing food or other items and attracts magnetically to the FoldPlay. While the FoldPlay would be worth purchasing for any of these uses, since it can easily adapt to a couch, bed, desk, and outdoors, you’ll easily get value out of the FoldPlay entertainment station.
