Pokémon TCG Kanazawa’s Pikachu | SNKRDUNK Magazine

Kanazawa's Pikachu Pokémon TCG

Pokémon Centers, the franchise’s official stores where you can buy all kinds of Pokémon merchandise, have come a long way since they first opened in Osaka in 1998. In November 2020, the 16th active Pokémon Center opened in Kanazawa. In celebration of its grand opening, Creatures Inc. has released a promotional Pokémon TCG card – a Pikachu card aptly named “Kanazawa’s Pikachu”.

The illustration on the card shows Kanazawa’s Pikachu wearing a traditional Japanese outfit with Poké Ball patterns on the sleeves. There are also several unspecified large objects in the background – one of which has the tail design of Milotic, the Kanazawa Pokémon Center’s signature Pokémon. On the right side of the card is the Kanazawa Pokémon Center logo featuring Pikachu and Milotic.

Kanazawa’s Pikachu also has an attack that directly references the opening of the first-ever Pokémon Center in the Chūbu region. This is a New Open attack in which both players reveal the top card of their deck and then add it to their hand – indicating a good that can be obtained at the Pokémon Center.

The appeal of this card comes from its rarity. It was only available during a specific campaign leading up to Opening Day. During this campaign, this card will be included as a free gift to all purchases at any Pokémon Center.

This card was never released in English.

One copy of Kanazawa’s Pikachu card (SP 144/SP promotional cards) costs ¥10,500 (~$67).
