The government is allocating Rs 50.74 billion for the development of the energy sector

The government has announced that it will prioritize reservoir-based hydroelectric projects.

Presenting the budget for the upcoming financial year in parliament, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun announced that construction of large-capacity hydropower projects will begin.

He said construction of the 1,200 MW Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Power Station and the 1,061 MW Upper Arun Hydroelectric Power Station would begin. He also said that the government would start construction of Nalagad, Jagdulla and Naumure multi-purpose hydropower projects.

The minister said that the construction of the 77.5 MW Ghunsa and 70 MW Ghunsa Khola hydroelectric power plants will be financed from the investments of Nepalis employed abroad.

He announced that the government will begin construction of the 783 MW Sunkoshi III hydroelectric power plant.

The government intends to connect 100 MW of private sector solar projects to the national grid.
