New EU law catalysing growth in the country’s green technology sector

EU law on national green technologies: The Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) is about to enter into force and is an important step forward in the EU’s efforts to fight climate change. The Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council to increase the production of clean technologies in the European Union (EU). By 2030, 40% of solar panels, wind turbines, heat pumps and other clean technologies in the EU will be produced domestically. NZIA is an important step towards reducing dependence on China’s manufacturing dominance in the country’s green technology sector and countering the lure of US environmental subsidies.

At its core, the New Zealand Industrial Agreement (NZIA) is part of the European Union’s (EU) wider strategy to move towards a carbon neutral economy. NZIA sets ambitious targets for domestic manufacturing in the EU as the EU looks to strengthen its clean technology (CT) sector and reduce carbon emissions. This comes at a time when the world faces an urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate impacts.

NZIA’s main goal is to address the current level of imbalance in domestic green technology production, particularly in the solar market where Chinese manufacturers currently hold significant market share. By promoting domestic production, the European Union (EU) aims to improve the competitiveness of European producers and strengthen the EU’s position as a world-class supplier of renewable energy technologies. By reducing its dependence on imported energy, the EU is also seeking to improve its security of supply and resilience to geopolitical shocks.

New Zealand Innovation Act (NZIA) Sustainability Supply Chain Resilience The NZIA complements the EU’s Clean Technology Investment (CTI) strategy by introducing a range of measures to promote sustainable development. These include: Streamlining permitting processes Requiring public authorities to put sustainability at the heart of procurement decisions Creating an enabling environment for investment and innovation NZIA aims to support the transition to a low-carbon economy, while maintaining environmental considerations.

The EU wind sector is relatively strong compared to solar, but NZIA aims to further strengthen the EU’s position in this sector as well. In recent years, European wind turbine manufacturers have demonstrated resilience and innovation in the face of increasing competition from China. By promoting domestic production and creating an environment conducive to research and development, the EU will continue to lead the world in the wind energy market.

Looking ahead, the success of NZIA will depend on successful implementation and partnerships between policymakers, industry stakeholders and civil society. Achieving a carbon neutral economy will require a multi-pronged approach, including investment in research and development, infrastructure and workforce development. It will also require strong international commitment to address global issues such as climate and energy security.

In summary, the adoption of the Net Zero Industry Act is an important step forward in the EU’s fight against climate change and the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy. By setting ambitious targets for the development of national green technologies and supporting the sustainability and resilience of the supply chain, the EU is positioning itself as the world’s leading supplier of renewable energy technologies. However, achieving these goals will require the continued commitment and cooperation of all stakeholders.
