BRG expands its European competition practice with a new team of experts in Brussels

BRG has announced a significant expansion of its European competition practice in Brussels with the addition of Dr. Aleksandra Boutin, Dr. Xavier Boutin and their team of economic consultants from Positive Competition. This addition aims to strengthen BRG’s existing operations in Brussels, Paris and London.

Dr. Aleksandra Boutin highlighted the strategic benefits of this move, emphasizing the enhanced value proposition for clients through combined expertise and international reach in mergers, antitrust and litigation. She also noted growth potential in specialized areas, such as state aid, the regulation on foreign subsidies and the Digital Markets Act.

Dr. David Evans, BRG’s global leader for the digital economy and platform markets, noted: “A strong EU presence is an integral part of our global strategy to address antitrust, merger and regulatory issues relating to digital platforms, which are becoming increasingly visible and scrutinized. The addition of these innovative economists to our already strong team makes BRG one of the leading competition practices in Europe.”

Prof. Kai-Uwe Kühn, founder of the BRG practice and former chief economist of the European Commission, welcomed the addition, citing the Boutins’ expertise in merger control and antitrust issues. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to handle complex multi-jurisdictional cases.

Thanks to this development, BRG’s European competition team now consists of approximately 40 specialists in Brussels, Paris and London, with native knowledge of ten European languages. The team includes eight members recognized by Who’s Who Legal and six with senior experience in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.
