TL;DR

  • It looks like Google is quietly rolling out new functionality for the Google Play Store.
  • This feature allows users to remotely uninstall apps from other devices.

While Google Play Store users have always been able to remotely install apps on their devices, they have never been able to remotely uninstall them. However, it looks like the Play Store has been updated to include this feature.

Tipster AssembleDebug has been notified Android authorities to a newly available feature in the Google Play Store. This feature allows the user to remotely uninstall applications from other devices. While this feature was first spotted last year hidden behind some flags, it looks like Google has quietly rolled it out on a wide scale.

You can find the remote uninstall feature by opening the Google Play Store, tapping Manage Apps & Device and going to the Manage tab. You should see a page that looks similar to the image below.

Remote uninstallation of the Google Play Store

If you have multiple devices connected, you will see a box in the upper left corner that says “✓ This device.” Clicking this box will display a sheet of connected devices. Selecting one of the options will display a list of applications on this device.

You can select one or more apps you want to uninstall by tapping the checkbox on the right side of the app. When you tap one of the checkboxes, a trash can icon will appear in the upper right corner. Once you tap the trash icon, a pop-up will appear allowing you to uninstall the app or cancel.

While this feature was first discovered a few months ago, it’s nice to see it finally being released to the public.
