NIST’s new cybersecurity framework harmonizes guidelines for various sectors

The director of the NIST Cybersecurity Center of Excellence discusses how new technologies require an evolving approach to security.

The new NIST Cybersecurity Framework released earlier this year provides organizations with a new set of harmonized cybersecurity guidelines and best practices. This is the first major update in 10 years that expands its scope beyond critical infrastructure entities.

Cherilyn Pascoe, director of the NIST Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, played a large role in developing the new framework. She said the plan highlights the importance of cybersecurity in the evolving technology environment and discusses how others can adapt it to their organizations across a variety of missions.

Pascoe also highlights the growing focus on broader cybersecurity priorities around post-quantum cryptography and artificial intelligence, and explains how the NIST Center of Excellence is developing additional guidance for the community.
