Friday: FRI completes survey of tree condition in 35 sectors in UT | Chandigarh News

Chandigarh: Dehradun-based Forest Research Institute (FRI) has submitted an interim survey report on the number of trees and health status in areas under the jurisdiction of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Completing the study of 35 sectors in the city, FRI presented the interim report on phase I and II of the industrial area, mentioning that a total of 1,891 trees have been included in the inventory of twin industrial areas. A total of 35 trees were examined for trunk voids at various locations in industrial areas. Based on the ultrasonic scanning protocol and their current condition, it was found that 15 trees were not decomposed. It was found that six trees were not hollow, but the branches were bent. Five trees were found to have slight rot in patches, but this did not pose a threat. Nine trees were found to have hollow/severely decayed trunks and were unsafe. “Regarding the tree trunk, which has no cavities but the branches are leaning, pruning has been done,” sources said.
