Residential and industrial sectors in Greater Noida have been equipped with 32 solar-powered CCTV cameras

In an attempt to increase CCTV coverage in Greater Noida, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has completed the installation of 32 solar-powered CCTV cameras across its sectors, officials said on Tuesday.

According to NK Jain, senior manager, UPSIDA, the cameras were installed as part of the ‘safe city’ project.

“As part of the Safe City Project, work is being carried out to improve safety in the industrial and residential sectors of UPSIDA. The installation of CCTV cameras in all sectors of UPSIDA in Greater Noida was completed on Monday. Each sector, including Surajpur estate in Site C, Site 4, Site 5 and Kasna industrial area, has been equipped with eight CCTV cameras each at a cost 37.80 lakh, which includes five years of maintenance for the cameras,” Jain said.

For safety reasons, the cameras are connected to solar panels, so they work even after a power outage, he added.

“The cameras are solar-powered and have a 48-hour backup, so even in the event of a power outage, they will continue working. The cameras of Site C, Surajpur and Site 4 will be monitored at Tilapta Police Station under Surajpur Police Station and the cameras of Site 5 and Kasna Industrial Area will be monitored at Kasna Police Station,” said Amit Kumar, Manager, Electrical, UPSIDA.

UPSIDA received demands from residents and industrialists for CCTV cameras to increase security in the areas, following which the decision was taken to install more cameras.

Vishard Gautam, national secretary, Indian Industries Association (IIA), said, “Security is the main concern of industrialists in Greater Noida as cases of theft of expensive industrial equipment like copper wires, pipes and so on are common. While all industries have their own CCTV cameras, having cameras at the entry and exit points of the sector definitely helps.”

Shivam Kumar, a resident of Surajpur complex in Site C, said, “Our sector is located on a main road, which makes it accessible to anti-social elements and prone to crime. Thanks to the installation of CCTV cameras, the sector feels safer.”

The official added that the number of CCTV cameras will be increased soon.
