The Citizens for Local Choice initiative will not appear on the November ballot | Country

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – A group seeking to change climate policy in the state didn’t collect enough signatures to put its proposal on the ballot.

Citizens for Local Choice wanted to return local government control over development plans for utility-scale wind and solar projects.

Last year, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed multiple renewable energy bills into law that added barriers to local control of zoning for renewable energy projects.

In a statement to ABC 12, Citizens for Local Choice says it will work to get the initiative on the ballot in 2026.
