Korean tests found Shein’s clothes contain high levels of toxic chemicals

Clothing purchased from Shein for scientific testing was found to contain “significant amounts” of potentially hazardous chemicals.

The investigation found that one pair of shoes contained 428 times the legal limit of phthalates – the highest recorded in government testing in Seoul – and three bags contained phthalates that exceeded 153 times the legal level.

Phthalate is a chemical compound used in the production of plastics that is considered dangerous to human health. The city called on the Chinese e-commerce platform to stop selling the products.

According to Asia News ChannelShein responded with a statement saying it takes product safety “very seriously” and that the company has conducted 400,000 product chemical safety tests over the past year.
