Kazakhstan’s manufacturing sector grows by 5.2% to $16 billion in four months

ASTANA — During the four months of this year, the volume of production of manufactured goods in Kazakhstan increased by 5.2% to 7.1 trillion tenge ($16 billion), and exports reached $5.6 billion, Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapayev said at a meeting The government on May 28 is chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, the Prime Minister’s press office reported.

Investment in fixed assets increased by about 20% to 403.2 billion tenge ($910 million). The industry grew by 105.2%, contributing 4.3 billion tenge ($9.7 million) to the Kazakh economy.

The metallurgical industry grew by 5.1%, with plans to implement 21 projects worth 464.2 billion tenge ($1 billion) of investment and create more than 4,700 jobs. These projects include a steel pipe factory in the Karaganda region and the modernization of aluminum packaging production in Shymkent.

The mechanical engineering sector grew by 22%, with car production increasing by 8.6%. More than 46,000 cars were produced, compared to the planned 160,000 for 2024.

The railway engineering industry grew 2.5 times thanks to the increased production of locomotives and wagons, while the production of household appliances increased 3.8 times with the launch of the Xiaomi TV factory in Almaty.

The chemical industry recorded 6% growth, with plans to launch 14 projects worth a total of 29 billion tenge ($65.4 million) of investment, including the production of ammonium sulfate in the Mangystau region and liquid nitrogen in the Atyrau region.

Meanwhile, light industry grew by only 0.3%, which is due to a decline in the production of textiles and leather. This year, Kazakhstan is to implement 12 investment projects worth 23.4 billion tenge ($52.8 million), providing 720 jobs.

The production of building materials increased by only 1.1%, and the share of domestic producers in the Kazakh building materials market reached 68%. Sharlapayev noted that the industry’s growth rate will be restored thanks to the use of domestic products during the implementation of the nationwide Comfortable School project and renovation activities after floods.

The minister also mentioned the allocation of 30 billion tenge ($67.7 million) for the construction of 37 small industrial zones in eight regions with a total area of ​​200,000 sq m. square meters.

He he reminded that the 2024 pool includes 180 projects worth 1.5 trillion tenge ($3.3 billion) that will create 18,000 permanent jobs.
