Completion date extended: Appointment of the Chairman of the Management Board of the Agricultural Food and Biological Sciences Institute (AFBI)

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs is seeking to appoint a chair to the Board of the Agriculture, Food and Biological Sciences Institute (AFBI).

The competition closing date has been extended to noon on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

AFBI is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by DAERA. Undertakes scientific work (research and development, research, advice and information on scientific matters, and dissemination of scientific research results) in the areas of agriculture, animal health and welfare, food, fisheries, forestry, natural environment and rural development, and enterprise.

This work helps Northern Ireland’s agri-food industry bring products to market nationally and internationally, helps protect animal and plant health, helps ensure the safety of the food we eat, contributes to the protection of our land and marine environment and is important for long-term sustainable economic and environmental NI.

The total working time of the Chairman of the AFBI Board is 40 days per year and his remuneration is GBP 28,049 per annum.

The successful candidate is expected to be appointed to a three-year term beginning September 1, 2024.
