Entering the US clean fuel market:
Haffner Energy Inc. is open for business

Vitry-le-FrançoisFrance – May 29, 2024, at 18:00 (CEST)

Haffner Energy Inc. begins operations in North America. The new entity is a subsidiary of Haffner Energy, a provider of competitive clean fuel solutions with 30 years of experience.

“The American market is a very promising opportunity for us, says Marc Haffner, co-founder and CEO of Haffner Energy, Inc. Our unique technology for producing clean fuels transforms any biomass, making it independent of biomass. Not only is biomass essential for developing clean liquid fuels, but it is also an abundant resource in the United States. “In addition, the federal program to finance new renewable energy projects under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) creates favorable market conditions.”

“In particular, demand for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) is very strong in the United States. We are already exploring the possibility of developing SAF production units with local players.” he points.

A family company co-founded by brothers Marc and Philippe Haffner 30 years ago, Haffner Energy designs and delivers innovative decarbonization solutions for mobility and industry. Its technology, based on biomass thermolysis and protected by 80 international patents, can produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as well as renewable hydrogen, gas and methanol. This is in line with EU mandates.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2023 Billion Tons Report (BT23), the United States can sustainably produce more than 1 billion tons of dry biomass (including food waste, municipal solid waste, agricultural and forestry waste, manure, algae, and energy crops) ). This amount could almost meet, for example, the production of enough SAF to meet today’s global demand for aviation fuels.

Haffner Energy’s approach is to support a circular economy that generates revenue and creates jobs. In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Hexas Biomass, Inc. in March. based in Washington State to develop collaborative projects on marginal lands.

Thanks to the support of Business France and the Cleantech Booster USA program, Haffner Energy began to increase its visibility in the USA last fall. Its value proposition was quickly identified when the company was selected by Houston’s Greentown Labs innovation center. It has been hosting there since November 2023.

Additionally, Haffner Energy is a member of California’s ARCHES H2 initiative to accelerate renewable hydrogen projects. The company also joined HyVelocity Hub, an association of energy companies and research organizations working to develop a clean hydrogen ecosystem in Texas and Louisiana.

Marcella Franchi, former vice president for North America, and Nathalie Ionesco lead the company’s U.S. representation efforts. “Our clean fuel solutions have been exceptionally well received in North America so far. We are currently developing several SAF and renewable hydrogen projects, particularly in Texas and California,” – points out Marcella Franchi, currently global marketing director and head of SAF at Haffner Energy.

In the first quarter of calendar year 2024 alone, Haffner Energy was featured at several major U.S. energy industry events, including the MIT Energy Conference and CERAWeek. He was also shortlisted as a finalist in the Global Energy Transition Awards organized by Reuters Events Energy Transition. The winners will be announced on June 25vol2024 at a ceremony in New York.
