With career issues facing IIT employees and silent layoffs in the IT sector, aspiring engineers can find jobs in these industries

While nearly 8,000 IIT employees still struggle to find jobs on campuses, LinkedIn’s latest report shows that there are still “fastest-growing” roles and industries looking to hire fresh graduates.

LinkedIn data shows that software engineer, systems engineer, and software analyst are the most common jobs among people with a bachelor’s degree. Meanwhile, master’s graduates are being hired as software engineers and data analysts. The report shows that people without a degree can find rewarding careers in jobs such as software engineer, secretary and design engineer.

But where are the jobs if even IIT specialists can’t crack security?

Asked about the importance of the data in the context of the job market crisis for IIT graduates and the trend of silent layoffs in the IT sector, Nirajita Banerjee, career expert and senior managing editor of LinkedIn News India, told CNBC-TV18, “This trend reflects the current economic and competitive challenges labor market, which makes it difficult for job seekers.”

She explained that while the technology sector faces some challenges, there are still opportunities in other sectors.

Industry sectors such as professional services, information and media, financial services and manufacturing have shown remarkable resilience and are actively seeking talent. “Positions such as software engineers and programming analysts are particularly sought after in these sectors and welcome candidates with or without a bachelor’s degree.”

Work is slowing down

How to obtain a job offer in an unrelated field?

Banerjee said staying up to date with industry trends and in-demand careers, and exploring roles that may not seem obvious at first glance, can expand your options.

She emphasized that many skills can now be transferred between industries, and the development of artificial intelligence is creating more technology-related positions in various fields, which prompts companies to look for specialists with diverse education.

“These employment trends reflect broader economic patterns, such as those in the energy sector. To expand their horizons, job seekers must constantly improve their skills and establish contacts with professionals,” said the career expert.
