Under this PPA, Google will receive associated environmental attribute certificates generated by a new 20 megawatt (MW) AC project being developed by Shizen Energy and its partner Bison Energy Inc. on a former golf course located on the same power grid as a Google data center in the city of Inzai, Chiba Prefecture.

Construction of the new solar power plant to be built under the PPA is scheduled to start in 2026 and be completed in 2027.

Shinji Okuyama, vice president of Google Japan, said: “This agreement marks a milestone in our regional clean energy strategy. Google is proud to enable this utility-scale solar project in Japan to support the operation of our Inzai data center, which is in line with Google’s ambition to use 24/7 zero-emission energy across the board by 2030 networks in which we operate. “

Oliver Senter, Shizen Energy’s executive director of investments and finance, said: “We are pleased to announce this PPA with Google, which adds to our growing portfolio of corporate PPAs in Japan. We have worked closely with our partner Bison Energy on this project, reflecting our strategy to serve as a hub to connect customers’ decarbonization needs with a deep pool of projects developed by both Shizen and its partners.”

To “take action for a Blue Planet”, Shizen Energy will continue to work towards the decarbonization of enterprises by providing solutions such as the development of renewable energy power plants, the creation and sale of environmental values, and the long-term supply of renewable energy energy through corporate PPAs.
