Turkey’s ICT sector grew by 83 percent last year

According to a report by the Information Technology Industry Association (TÜBİSAD), the size of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Turkey increased by 83 percent last year, reaching 784.6 billion Turkish liras.

In US dollar terms, the industry grew 27 percent in 2023 from the previous year to $33 billion.

The report shows that between 2019 and 2013, the sector’s average annual growth in lira terms was around 50 percent.

The information technology market size increased from 213.9 billion lira in 2022 to 382.4 billion lira in 2023, while the communication technology sector reached a size of 402.2 billion lire, up from 195 billion.

In the case of information technology, the value of the hardware sector increased by 68 percent, to 133 billion lire, and the growth rate in the software sector was 132 percent, to 207 billion lira. Services recorded a 96 percent increase, reaching 62.2 billion lira.

ICT sector exports have increased by 85% since 2022, reaching 57.6 billion lira ($2.4 billion). The IT software category generated 52 billion lira in export revenues, while the share of hardware and services was 1.65 billion lire and 1.26 billion lire.

Exports of the communication technology equipment sector amounted to 2.26 billion lira.

Employment in the ICT sector increased by 11% in 2023. from 2022 to 237 thousand people, with the largest share having the information technology segment, which amounted to 185 thousand.

The report shows that the number of technopolises in Turkey increased from 97 in 2022 to 101 in 2023, and the number of companies operating in these facilities increased by 14.5% to 10,275.

According to the report, the companies’ total revenues increased by almost 175 percent to 207.5 billion lire last year, and their export revenues increased by 139 percent to 47.5 billion lire.
