Verifone and Pennies hit milestone of £6m raised for charity through micro-donations on payment devices

Verifone, the payments architect shaping ecosystems for in-person and online commerce, and Pennies, the award-winning fintech charity working to advance and protect micro-giving, are delighted to announce that they have since made over £6 million in charitable donations first cooperation in 2011

The partnership saw donations made to over 95 charities, enabling consumers to donate on Verifone payment devices at the checkout with a simple prompt asking whether they would like to round the purchase price to the nearest pound or make a donation of a set amount. The £6 million milestone was achieved thanks to £23.5 million of individual donations from Verifone retailers.

These small donations add up quickly and make a real difference in communities. A great example is Currys, the retailer of Verifone, which raises enough funds through Pennies to help its charity partner, Digital Poverty Alliance, provide laptops to families in need, thereby improving access to vital educational, financial and healthcare resources.

“Our enduring alliance with Pennies shows the impact we can make together, one small donation at a time.” said Bulent Ozayaz, vice president of Verifone EMEA. “Results like this align with our mission to introduce innovative payment solutions that benefit merchants and enrich communities. We are honored to support positive change with committed partners like Pennies.”

Pennies chief executive Alison Hutchinson CBE added: “Verifone is a long-time partner of Pennies, making it easy for their retail partners to join the Pennies micro-donating movement. “Congratulations to Verifone and everyone involved in unlocking £6 million in donations to a number of charities, showing the power of working together to make a difference.”
