Amazon is doubling down on Grubhub to win food delivery

Amazon wants to be a leading player in food delivery and aims to achieve this within a year expands cooperation with Grubhub– the e-commerce giant announced on Thursday.

Amazon Prime members who pay the $139 annual fee will automatically receive a free subscription to Grubhub+, which normally costs $120 per year. Grubhub+ customers do not delivery fee on orders over $12 and get other benefits too.

“We are excited to build on our successful partnership with Amazon and provide greater convenience for Amazon customers by offering Grubhub’s network of hundreds of thousands of restaurants directly on Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app,” said Grubhub CEO Howard Migdal.

Amazon says customers will be able to place orders at “hundreds of thousands of restaurants” across the country without having to download or switch to the Grubhub app.

Amazon’s expanded partnership with Grubhub comes as the e-commerce giant competes with Big Retail rivals for consumers tired of inflation. Amazon, Walmart and Target have lowered prices in last weeks. Purpose i Walmart both offer loyalty programs and food delivery services.

In April, Amazon announced that it was launching the platform cheaper grocery delivery program for Prime members and government-sponsored service customers EBT cards. The retailer said the subscription service will be available to shoppers in more than 3,500 cities and towns nationwide, noting that Prime members will pay $9.99 a month and EBT card customers will pay $4.99. Additionally, Amazon has stated that EBT cardholders do not need to be Prime members to access the subscription.

And just this week, Amazon Fresh, the company’s grocery subsidiary, said yes price reductions on 4,000 items by up to 30% on a rotational basis. The discounts will be valid in online and retail stores and will include price reductions on meat, seafood and snacks, the company said.
