Barco opens a center in Wuxi to expand into the Chinese market

Barco has opened a new production and R&D center in Wuxi, China, and reaffirmed its ambition to “deeply cultivate the Chinese market.”

Last week, Barco opened the Barco (Wuxi) Technology Co., Ltd. manufacturing and R&D center, which will focus on the supplier’s engineering projector business. Barco emphasizes that its strategy is not only based on “In China, for China”, but also on “In China, for the world”.

In a blog post commemorating the center’s opening, Barco said:

Barco Wuxi will further strengthen the localization of technology research and development, solution design, production and after-sales support of Barco engineering projectors by integrating global resources and exploiting local advantages, thus strengthening the ecological chain design.

During the opening ceremony, Barco showed guests around the Wuxi manufacturing, research and development center, which covers an area of 15,000 square meters and includes advanced automated material storage and picking systems equipped with automated internal logistics and production lines.

It plans an annual production capacity of over 20,000 projectors and key components. The facility includes a 1,620-square-meter, 24-meter-high warehouse space with space for approximately 7,000 pallet lots and 20,000 box lots.

Barco’s projector engineering ambition

The Barco blog noted that China’s professional AV system integration market has been growing steadily in recent years, with growing demand for projection equipment in night tours related to cultural tourism, museum exhibitions, stage performances, and higher education and research areas. Barco said this creates market opportunities.

Barco engineers offer a wide range of projectors with brightness ranging from lumens to 75,000 lumens, with excellent image quality, color reproduction, installation features and long-term stability.

Barco also highlights the completion of benchmark projects, including the Virtual Emergency Response Simulation Laboratory at Tsinghua University, the Palace Museum’s immersive art exhibition “Painting a Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains,” and the opening ceremony of the university’s student games.

Barco confirms that the establishment of an engineering projector production and research center in Wuxi is part of the company’s localization strategy in China. He reiterates that this strategy brings Barco closer to Chinese customers, shortens R&D and market response times, and allows for a better understanding of Chinese customers’ needs through localized R&D and production.

What was Barco doing in 2024?

Earlier this month, Barco announced that its ClickShare Bar devices have been formally certified as carbon neutral.

Barco’s CO2 neutral certification from climate consultancy CO2logic means the ClickShare Bar Series is the second ClickShare product to receive the CO2 neutral label, following the second generation ClickShare Conference CX-50. Barco claims that ClickShare Bar is the “first carbon neutral wireless conferencing video bar on the market”, confirming its commitment to climate action and marking a significant milestone towards achieving a fully carbon neutral collaboration offering during meetings.

In February, Barco partnered with Microsoft Teams to migrate ClickShare device data to the Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro and Pro Portal management portals to improve management and end-user experience.

IT managers will gain deeper insight into room and device utilization, and users can expect consistent quality of service across Teams and other platforms. The Barco ClickShare solution enables users to conduct calls from laptops and video conferencing platforms, using the audio and video equipment available in conference rooms.
