The law firm is developing thanks to a series of business meetings

National law firm Simpson Millar has welcomed five new associates to its clinical negligence team, including three experienced solicitors, a chartered solicitor and a legal director.

The move comes in response to increased demand from clients across the country, including those who have been harmed or injured by negligence resulting in birth trauma, complex surgical injuries, orthopedic and spinal injuries and delayed diagnosis.

Based in Manchester with over 25 years’ experience, Paul Cain, a solicitor, specializes in high value claims arising from surgical errors, amputations and delayed diagnosis of strokes and cancers.

Paul is joined by solicitor Claire Levene, who brings to the role over 20 years of experience in clinical negligence, 18 of which has been working for clients who have suffered birth-related injuries, as well as complex injuries arising from negligence during orthopedic and spine surgery.

He lives in Bristol and is a member of the Law Society’s specialist clinical negligence panel. It has also settled numerous high-value claims, including fatalities and cases arising from delays in cancer diagnosis.

Legal Director Lauren Bayliff, who is currently sitting her CILEX exams, and Chartered Legal Executive Emma Hickey have also joined the firm, based in Manchester and Liverpool respectively, bringing a combined 10 years of experience to their roles.

They will now oversee their own caseload, supporting clients from claim inception through to settlement, including working with medical experts and third parties to gather evidence to negotiate the best possible settlement terms.

Finally, newly qualified solicitor Emily Roberts, who recently completed her training contract with Simpson Millar in October 2023, has also been appointed to the team.

Kate Sweeney, the firm’s director of clinical negligence, said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul, Claire, Lauren, Emma and Emily to the team.

“They all bring invaluable experience and knowledge to their new roles, and their passion and commitment to supporting people who have suffered from medical negligence is evident in their work and the results they achieve.

“Given the nature of our business, our clients are often in a difficult situation when contacting us. They expect clear and simple legal advice that can help them achieve results, and the team’s extensive legal experience and understanding of clinical negligence issues means we are perfectly placed to help.”
