Defense Minister Muhammed Badaru Abubakar has attributed the successes achieved in the fight against insurgency and terrorism to the country’s defense and security architecture implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since the beginning of his administration.

Badaru stated this at the Schuman Security and Defense Forum in Brussels, Belgium.

Barr. Henshaw Ogubike, director of information and public relations at the Ministry of Defense, in a press release, said the forum began on Thursday with high-level discussions on global security and defense strategies.

He said Badaru delivered a keynote presentation on the security situation in Nigeria and the country’s strategic approach to solving contemporary security challenges.

“He highlighted some of the president’s defense and security architectures which include: strengthening regional and international security partnerships, signing the Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act, 2023, aimed at increasing local defense production and reducing dependence on foreign arms imports , launching a new Nigerian Navy warship, NNS Gusau, to strengthen maritime security and protect the country’s territorial waters, endorsement of a comprehensive national security strategy to address emerging security threats and challenges, increased military funding to improve personnel welfare, training and equipment, and the introduction of a new anti-terrorism policy to combat Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.

“According to him, the critical dialogues conducted at the Forum are aimed at strengthening international security cooperation and meeting contemporary defense challenges. He stressed that the forum provides an important platform for Nigeria to engage with global partners and strengthen its commitment to peace and stability in the region and internationally.

“The Schuman Security and Defense Forum brings together EU defense ministers, representatives of partner countries, international and regional organizations, think tanks and academia to exchange views on common security challenges and responses.

“The forum is the second edition of the Schuman Security and Defense Forum, following the success of the first edition last year

“The forum comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Europe and globally and is seen as an important opportunity for countries to unite and address common security challenges.”
