Shoppers are replacing the ‘Ninja air fryer and ovens’ with a gadget that’s cheaper on Amazon than Aldi

Air fryers are countertop gadgets that are known for saving you time and money spent in the kitchen. Standard ovens are being replaced with Ninja, Tefal and Lakeland models to save on electricity costs and cook healthier food, but now shoppers have found a cheaper gadget that can replace them.

Instead of deep fryers, food lovers are switching to healthier halogen ovens, still small enough to sit on the kitchen counter but much cheaper to run. Available on Amazon, this £29.89 Daewoo model costs just 11p for a 20-minute meal because it’s chosen by customers who “don’t want to spend money on a Ninja”.

The bake, roast and grill model went viral earlier this year when Aldi middle aisle shoppers noticed it was £10 cheaper than the 4.5-litre version sold in the supermarket. It has more than twice the capacity (17 liters) and can “cook food to perfection”. However, Aldi sells theirs for £29.99, making the Amazon version 1p cheaper.

Halogen ovens, also called halogen fryers, are generally larger than typical slide-out air fryers and allow you to cook larger amounts of food at one time. As the name suggests, a halogen lamp is used to cook food, and thanks to the glass bowls, it is easy to see the food while cooking.

To show how much cheaper it would be to cook with a halogen model compared to a regular fryer, we used energy saving website Sust-it to compare 20-minute run times. The Daewoo Halogen model costs just 11p for a full 20 minutes of use (at 1300W), which is much less than using the Ninja’s Foodi FlexiDrawer Dual AirFryer (for example) – its 2470W of power will cost 20p for 20 minutes .

A huge cost-saving feature that many users were quick to praise on Amazon. As one shopper explained: “I ordered this as a much cheaper alternative to an air fryer. I’ve had it for several months now and it has completely replaced my oven.

“It can hold a medium-sized chicken and still hold a couple of baked potatoes. I also use it to bake cakes and rolls and the results are fantastic. Because it’s glass, it’s very easy to see what the cooking/baking food tastes like without having to open it.”

Another Amazon customer said he didn’t see himself “switching from a halogen model to an air fryer” any time soon, while other reviews noted the quick cooking time. As a second buyer said: “It’s fast, bakes evenly, cooks in half the time of a regular oven, and deep-fryes without having to submerge the food in a deep and unhealthy amount of oil.”

Of 7,822 reviews, 7% gave the Daewoo air fryer one star, with reviews stating that the element “just doesn’t get hot enough” or the bulb only lasted a few months. There are many brands selling halogen air fryers on Amazon, including the Tower T14048 for £49.
